Estimated between 1908 – 1914 (According to R.I.T. & the Research of Bob & Judy Pratt)

Transfer of Ownership:

• Fred Krenzer owned the property when this barn was built and farmed the property until the early 1960s.
• The land (including the barn) was sold to Rochester Institute of Technology for its new Henrietta campus.

Interesting Details:

• Gravel pits on Wheatland Center Road provided gravel and stone for the barn’s foundation.
• Masons working on the barn’s foundation earned $1.00 per day.
• John Paul Krenzer (Fred Krenzer’s son) shared stories that the barn was paid off in two years with grain profits.
• R.I.T.’s Outdoor Experimental Activities program originally used the barn for team building exercises.
• The Red Barn is currently overseen by R.I.T.’s Outdoor Education Department, which offers a variety of experiential and adventure-based programs and services for students, staff, and members of the R.I.T. community.

 

Present Owner & Present Status:

This barn is owned by Rochester Institute of Technology.
R.I.T.’s Outdoor Education Program uses the “The Red Barn” as an indoor climbing facility.
